not think need to be implemented:
Discuss the possibility of having 2 chip shows a year and having one in another location like Atlantic City
While this seems like a good idea, the club just can’t afford to hold 2 convention at this time. Alternative locations have also been discussed in the past and have been proven to be unfeasible due to the fact that the majority of dealers live in Nevada and California. There is also the issue of our convention supplies like showcases, signage ect. is all kept in storage in Vegas and would have to be transported. Extra shows should be held by local clubs.
Look into the club creating its own Ebay where fees go back to the club
While the BOD actually likes the idea in general, alternative auction sites have proven to be unsuccessful. Sites that specifically supported chip collectors like Jackpot never really took off. The BOD doesn’t feel this is a feasible idea at this time but maybe somewhere down the line we can incorporate this idea into a new web site. The club is already selling donated items on Ebay which increases our exposure as well as brings in some additional revenues.
Is there a conflict of interest with a BOD member being a major chip dealer?
Many members that have sat on the BOD have been chip sellers including some of the past Presidents. The problem is that if we start limiting who can run for office it becomes that much harder to get volunteers to fill the needed positions. After much discussion, It was decided that this was not an issue that would cause any problems or conflicts.
Look into additional monitoring of the Chipboard as many people look at the Chipboard as part of the club
This topic is not a new one and has been discussed before several times. While the Chipboard is read regularly by most of the BOD members it is still a private board that is not owned by the
Obviously when something illegal or incorrect is stated the BOD will do its best to do the right thing. However we need to remember that the Chipboard has a set of rules that differ from the Club Board. Many topics that are not allowed to be posted on the club board are freely discussed on the chipboard. Because of this the BOD feels that the Chipboard should continue to be monitored in the same respect as it has in the past.
Offer an incentive of a raffle to increase voter participation
The BOD does not like this idea. Offering an incentive to people who vote will create a category of people who vote for the wrong reasons and only to get whatever is being given away. Those who vote vote, those that don’t is by choice.
Look into sending out a SASE with election ballots in order to increase voter participation
While the BOD agrees that this option will increase voting numbers, it questions the benefit in respect to the costs. Just as mentioned in the previous idea on increasing voter participation, those people who really want to vote will vote with or without a SASE. The BOD does not feel it is worth the additional expenditures and because the ballots are currently printed and mailed with the magazine the costs would become significant. The view of the BOD is that our problem is not a voting issue as much as it is an apathy issue. If we can inspire the membership to vote, we will get more participation.
Incorporate a program where ideas are rewarded with a small token of appreciation.
Right now the BOD does not feel we like this idea. It seems that we have no lack of suggestions currently and cant keep up with the ones we are getting. This may be something we want to look into in the future, but not something we want to take on at the present time
Have the Club Make a sales display of $2 to $5 chips and treat them like they are valuable as to not have new collectors put off by high chip prices.
The BOD does not like this idea for the fact that the Club is not is the business of selling chips. Yes, we do offer chips on Ebay from time to time but the club has never been a "Dealer" at the convention. While the idea in general is not a bad one, possibly we can encourage some of our dealers to take this on.
Have the club elections during the national convention.
While the BOD does like some aspects of this suggestion, the logistics just wont work out. Per our current constitution, BOD members must take office during the club business meeting. Since that happened at the convention each year, there just isn't enough time to hold the elections during the convention and it would be unfair to those that cant attend.
Offer a subscription to the Club's magazine, so people who are interested/curious about the hobby can find out more.
Unfortunately the bulk majority of the membership costs IS the magazine. We would have to charge $28.50 for a subscription vs. a $30 membership.
Look into changing the election process as many people don’t feel their votes are confidential.
While the BOD understands the concern we continue to stress that the fear people are feeling is unsupported. Our Election Chairs Bruce and Mary Ann Massey have integrity beyond reproach and should never be questioned. Those that fear losing anonymity with their vote don't understand the voting process. The person who opens and unfolds the vote, never even sees the envelope that it came in. There is no confidentiality issues and our voting members need to understand that. If some members feel that the confidentiality of their vote is compromised currently then there is nothing we can ever do as even if we double envelope there will still be people with doubts.
Give away the quarterly to those attending the show. Let them see how great the mag is.
The club already gives away back issues at the club table during the convention. It is completely unfeasible to give away current magazines to all attendees and many of the attendees already get a magazine. Those that sign up for membership at the convention will get a new issue.
