I don't think Jim was suggesting it should be canceled, but perhaps tweaked a little. When I first started in the club the banquets were very inviting and open. I was comfortable not knowing anyone and milling around talking, trading, and just meeting new collectors. Now, the banquets seem very formal with assigned tables, guest speakers and sit down dinners.

Archie, you and the other longtime members are going to find the banquet very comfortable because you know EVERYONE. IMHO, a newby will not feel as welcome. I think that is a shame because the banquet could be used to energize a new collector before the show, not isolate them.

The first year we switched to the sitdown banquet style was the last year I attended.

p.s. - I also never understood the dress up "theme". Why do we do that?
