My Personal Thoughts on the Voting Issues

Now that we have spent a week reading numerous suggestions on how to improve the voting numbers, here is my honest opinion.

Let me preface this by saying this is purely my own personal opinion and once these topics are discussed with the rest of the BOD, I may be convinced to change it.

As has been said before, there are 2 types of people in our club.

Those that actively participate, volunteer, donate, and will most likely always vote........ and those that don't really care about club politics or business and just want to have fun and collect chips.

Now there is nothing wrong with being in either of the two groups I just mentioned above, but it is what it is.

If someone chooses not to vote in the past, is changing the voting process really going to change that person into a voter?

Sure we will probably get additional votes if we adopt some of the methods that were suggested. But is getting someone to vote that really never cared before really beneficial to the club?

Let’s face it, those that care enough to vote already do.

Do we offer an incentive to get people to vote? All that does is get people to send in ballots so they can win something.

Do we double envelope the responses? If people don’t already trust the election chairs nothing we can do will make those feel more trustworthy.

Do we spend extra money to send out Postage paid envelopes? – If people really wanted to vote, wouldn’t they already do so?

Do we change to voting during the convention? – What makes us think more people will vote at the convention? Has anyone been to a business meeting?

I guess what I am trying to say is that Yes, we do have a problem with voting. However that problem is member apathy and not a problem with the system. If some of our members don’t care enough to mail in a ballot on their own, why are re talking about revising a system to make it easier for people who already don’t want to vote?

Now as I said before, all the suggestions will be discussed, but to be absolutely honest, I don’t think I can be convinced of the benefits of anything I have heard.

Once again, Just my personal opinion and I have no problem with those that disagree with me.
