Bruce; I don't understand why you have a problem realizing the damage that has been done regarding these Playboy backup chips.... and let me be clear that it is the BACKUP chips we are talking about .... not the regular rack chips. I will have more to say about this subject in a post later this evening as a result of some confidential information that has been supplied to me during my usual weekend visit to Atlantic City. But for now, I would like to address the points you have made in an attempt to clear up a few of the legitimate concerns this hobby has.

Bruce; For the past ten consecutive years, I have been the author of the universally accepted reference work on ALL Atlantic City Casino Chips & Gaming Tokens.... not just for Playboy chips. I publish an estimated Price Guide in each issue of my catalog that is routinely referred to by collectors around the country.... many of who do use it as a reasonable value guide when they are considering purchasing expensive chips. My estimated values published are not etched in stone, some values admittedly may be higher than they should be, some are possibly lower than they should be, but the numbers are based primarily on the availabilty of chips known to exist and the prices they have realized in past private sales, private and public auctions ... including the annual club auctions held in Las Vegas and on ebay. This issue with me is a matter of integrity. When all of a sudden, large numbers of the same chips come up for sale over a relatively short period of time, the red flag goes up and serious consideration is given to re-evaluate the estimated worth of some of these high ticket items.

Many people (collectors) ARE excited by the prospect of adding someting to their collection that would have been difficult if not impossible to obtain Bruce ....... but such is not the case any longer with these Playboy backup chips. That is why these chips brought high prices at one time ... because they USED TO BE "difficult, if not impossible to obtain". They no longer command the premiums that you are charging for your Playboy backup chips. Bruce; You obviously have hundreds of these chips ... you have alluded to that fact yourself .... or you know where you can obtain hundreds more of them. These back up chips were never in play on the tables, nor were they ever valid for redemption at face value... according to my sources. They are as common now as a current L.E. chip issued in Atlantic City except for the fact that they are controlled by a very few people. In fact, some these Playboy backup chips being offered may be as common as some of the recent Claridge $10 L.E. chips that only 500 were made. (More on that in my post later this evening.) If what I've been told is true, there is no way you can justify charging four figures for chips that are as common as I'm led to believe. Who can blame collectors for not wanting to lay out the kind of money you are suggesting your Playboy back up chips are worth?

You're absolutely right there Bruce... so evidently at one time there WAS something you could have done about it. In my opinion, it is YOUR greed, by asking the monumental prices for allegedly large numbers of chips that YOU have alluded are in your possession .... or are in the possession of someone you know .... that has caused this tremendous devaluation of some thing that was once considered scarce or even rare. These chips formerly brought handsome prices when offered because they were offered very infrequently due to the perception of them being scarce to rare. Now, anyone who wants one or two, or even whole sets, must pay your price because you (or someone you know) control those hundreds if not thousands of Playboy back up chips that have been brought to light? I don't think so. What kind of fools do you take chip collectors for?

Bruce; You're the guy who offered these large numbers of these chips to another collector. I posted your email you sent to the potential buyer.

You still don't get it Bruce. If someone discovers a great number of chips in the future and brought it to the attention of the chip collecting community, they would be welcomed with open arms for being up front and honest in their dealings and letting the chip collecting community know about the fact that a hoard has been discovered...... However, if the person who discovers this hoard thinks that he/she can demand huge prices for chips that were formerly considered to be worth a great deal of money because they were thought to be scarcer than it turns out to be, then I would suggest to you that it is the finder who is greedy and evil....., not the would-be purchaser.

Wrong again Bruce. What I'm hearing is that there is a BIG SUPPLY of these Playboy backup chips. When there exists a BIG SUPPLY, then the value goes down and has nothing to do with the "simple joy of collecting for the sake of collecting". You seem to be of the opinion that you have latched onto the proverbial pot of gold with your find, when in reality, all you've accomplished is to increase the supply and have thereby lessened the value of what used to be valuable.... But instead, it is YOU who thinks the value should not be diminished and that it is YOU who should profit at the ignorant collector's expense until your last chip is sold.... and only then should the price go down.

"That tells me the only real demand was imagined to begin with based on profitability. I realize I have zero credibility with you guys at this point so I won't waste my breath trying to convince you of anything. But I do hope you will all at least think about why you do or don't want these chips and be honest with yourself. Constantly restating the fact of value loss is not going to benefit the collectors who paid big money for these things it is only hurting them more. It is not hurting me in the least even though I would be the logical target."

Bruce; What chippers do respect is that those who do make periodic finds of chips that USED to be in short supply, is to announce that a significant find has been made and to offer them at a reasonable adjusted price, period. It is the seller who appears to be gouging in this case, not the other way around.

Bruce; If you genuinely feel that you did nothing wrong, then you have nothing to appologize for. However, I think you know exactly what you were attempting to do ... and for that, you are quite correct when you said that you realize that you have "zero credibility".
